Profile Ryan Nie · The Farm · Mahwah, NJ
01The Why

Why we called it The Farm.

Two words. Both deliberate. Not a farm. The Farm. One room. One standard. Athletes aren’t manufactured here. They’re grown.

A farm is the oldest proof that patience works. The work goes in when nothing is showing. It goes in again the next morning. It goes in in weather nobody would choose. Then one season it is all there at once, and it looks like luck to everyone who wasn’t there for the mornings.

Ryan grew up on a pig farm in Iowa. Hard work, discipline, and perseverance were the first things he learned, and they are still the whole method. Proven fundamentals over fashion. Long-term development over a fast result that doesn’t hold. No gimmicks. Not in the programming, not in the equipment, not in what we promise you.

That is the standard in Mahwah, and it does not change with who walks in. Athlete or adult. First session or fifth year. The Farm isn’t just where you train. It’s where you grow.

The standard

“No gimmicks. The more our world gets technology- and AI-driven, the more people will strive to get back to their roots, and that’s what we’re going to give them.”

Ryan Nie is the founder and owner of The Farm, where he has spent more than 16 years helping athletes become faster, stronger, and more resilient. From youth athletes to Olympians, Ryan has coached thousands of athletes to reach their highest potential through science-backed performance training.

Raised on a pig farm in Iowa, Ryan learned the value of hard work, discipline, and perseverance at an early age. Those principles remain the foundation of his coaching philosophy today: every athlete deserves the opportunity to maximize their potential through purposeful training.

Throughout his career, Ryan has trained athletes at every level, including youth, high school, collegiate, professional, Olympic, and world-class competitors. His athletes have earned state championships, national rankings, All-American honors, Gatorade Player of the Year awards, NJ and NY Athlete of the Year honors, and have gone on to compete at the collegiate and professional levels. He has also helped numerous teams capture conference, sectional, state, and national championships while reducing injuries through intelligent performance programming.

Ryan earned his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from the University of Northern Iowa, where he interned with the Strength and Conditioning Staff, working with the football, volleyball, soccer, and track & field programs. He later earned a master’s degree in Exercise Science from Montclair State University, conducting graduate research in biomechanics while serving as a graduate assistant.

He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, received his license in massage therapy in the state of NJ, certified by the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI L2), USA Weightlifting Coach (USAW), and USA Track and Field Certified (USATF). Ryan also holds the title of Adjunct Professor at Montclair State University, where he teaches Advanced Theories of Strength and Conditioning.

Committed to continual learning, Ryan has trained with some of the world’s top coaches, including Olympic weightlifting coach Jiaping Ma, and has traveled to China to train alongside the Chinese National Weightlifting Team.

Whether working with an individual athlete or an entire team, Ryan’s mission is simple: help every athlete become the strongest, fastest, and most confident version of themselves.
